I'd offer to run the next one but it sounds like I'm rolling onto a new project either this week or the following week, and I'm unsure what kind of time availability I'm going to have. I should be able to participate in one, though.

If someone who hasn't run one before wants to step up, I'll assist with the set-up.
I've been offering to run one for awhile, but others always stepped up. If I do it, I'd prefer it to be a straightforward, standard draft. So if anyone is up for Westerns, or a redo of the 90's, or something like that...
As I've said, I'd be down for Westerns.
Westerns works for me too.
I’d participate in Westerns for sure.
I'd do a Western draft.
Sure, Westerns would be cool.

Yeah, either sounds good so whatever you and everyone else wants to do.
I have the time to run one of these again.

Thinking a standard, five-picks-per-person, genre draft.

Westerns seems popular, but I also was thinking TV Dramas, maybe from 1980-Present.

Thoughts?
Let's do Westerns. That's my vote, anyways.
Champing at the bit here.
I had a dream that we did another Die Hard draft, but it was a TV show and I was hellbent on Eric Bogosian as Hans Gruber.

I don’t know what my life is anymore.
I don't see a problem with any of that.
DIE HARD 2: DARK TERRITORY?
I was waiting for my draft time and the need to defend myself that he wouldn’t be performing most of his scenes on a computer monitor.

Please, please don't give CBS any more bright ideas.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who has dreams about this stuff.
Someone brought up some 2000 - 2007 past draft in the western thread. Made me think it might be fun to do one for a recent year. Could be interesting to see people's Top Five or Ten of a year when they're forced to pick movies they maybe wouldn't.
The last couple of drafts kind of petered out, so I think it might be best to put them on hiatus for the foreseeable future.

Not being able to do polls really takes the wind out of the sails, honestly.
It also feels like the participation has been kinda meh. A draft loses its momentum when you have hours go by between picks.
You reminded me of this one:

http://citizens.trouble.city/showthread....223&page=7

I just declared Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter joint winners on this one and reuniting them to ride off happily into the sunset like they deserve as well as because they've earned it.

Yeah, it removes a fair chunk of the competitive element, unfortunately. While we're still competing for picks, obviously, there isn't that added edge. It also feels like discussion tends to dry up around Day 3, and Richard's right that having hours go by without picks tends to kill momentum. Too bad, these are a ton of fun with enough people to keep them moving, but that just hasn't happened these last couple of drafts.
I think if we were to keep it going, we could look at shorter time-frames, but like everything, that's a challenge. You want discussion going on throughout the day, but you also don't want to wrap up the draft within a couple of hours. Half-hour slots might be the way to go.
As far as brackets go, I remember at least one draft where we just posted our votes in the thread for each matchup. I'd be fine with something like that in the future.

That might work to encourage more discussion as well - a lot of the voting threads ended up just being the poll with maybe one or two posts saying why someone voted the way they voted. Would be down for that.

I can't remember how many drafts I've run.  A couple, at least, I think.  I know at least in one of them we had the non-anonymous voting, and it worked out as well as any other draft, as I recall.  Polls do make it seem so much more official, though... but I was always a fan of putting your name on it.
IDK, I'd really like to do the rep company draft.
Though the 8K thread proves you CAN do polls on here.

I do really like that idea, and would even be willing to run it, if others are interested. But I do think we should give it at least a couple of weeks to iron out details, and to try and get as many people involved as possible.
I'm all for the rep company draft, but I agree, we all need to be on the same page. I might even suggest extending sign ups for two weeks - or we could so something to see what day/time works best for folks. Can't run it, but happy to help plan it.

How did they do it in the 8K thread? I can't even find the thread to see what it looks like.
It looks like we can make polls. Looked up how to do it for MyBB and found this:

It's one of the daftest things ever on MyBB

You need to make a new thread > Tick the box "I want to post a poll" > Choose number of options > Post the thread.

Only then will you see where you can set your options for the Poll.

Having never even tried to make a thread since the switch I've never seen it until now, but when making a thread there's a poll option, (You have up to ten options) and the poll itself is something you can only do after creating the thread and not during the initial creation of the thread. At least that's what that says, which seems like a pretty stupid way of setting things up.
Regarding the rep company draft, I like the basic structure Boone proposed:

(06-13-2018, 09:35 AM)boone daniels Wrote: [ -> ]Yeah, I think the best, most creative drafts - in particular, the Batman one and the Universal Monsters one - have had that "rep company" feeling already.

One thing that springs to mind when thinking about the old rep draft and how to build on that one, you could do a list of "properties" that you're casting for, with each person choosing three from a list:

--a (non-comic book) remake
--a book adaptation
--a Shakespeare play
--one original idea
--a biopic
--a historical epic
--a comic book adaptation
--a musical adaptation

Just to open it up, as I don't know if everyone will be as excited to do Shakespeare as some of us nerds.

Here's the discussion thread for the Rep Draft:

http://citizens.trouble.city/showthread....99&page=36

That one, we had to say why we chose certain actors:

http://citizens.trouble.city/showthread.php?tid=109220

Chosen:

http://citizens.trouble.city/showthread.php?tid=109200

We also had separate threads for each of the projects, which were given a title and genre by Nick. Here's the drama - some fun ideas in here!

http://citizens.trouble.city/showthread.php?tid=109380

One question I'll throw out is whether people would want to cast three properties, or limit it to two. I'd be open to either, but I feel like the difficulty level of putting together a cast to fit just two separate projects is plenty high.

That's weird. But, if it works, it works.
Whoa man, that’s a blast from the past. What a fucking nerd I am!

And what’s more, I turned one of those story pitches, the WWII era Forty Second Fuse, into an actual screenplay, featuring characters suited to the actors I picked. And it’s pretty good!
