A character draft like the Monsters one would be a lot of fun.  And in terms of casting drafts, I'd be into doing a period one to shake things up.  '70s No Country or '80s Drive, for example.  That'd get people away from their normal choices in those, if that's such a problem.

How exactly do the decade drafts work?  You draft movies from the decade?  Same thing for the TV/comedy drafts?

I'd love to do a BLADE RUNNER, 1930s/1940s casting draft.

- Actor/Actress must have been active during the 1930s and 1940s

- Director must have been active during the 1930s and 1940s

Other ones that would be fun for that time period: STRIPES, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

For a "character" draft, how about Couples?

1.  Bill and Ted

For Draft after next -say in Jan. or Feb.- we should do a draft for this decade since we'll be rounding past the halfway point. Since there's no canon yet, it would be cool unearthing hidden gems, and to see what gets championed.

This and an '80s Dark Knight both sound good.

Also, I still find yt's band idea interesting.

I realize I might not be helping to narrow things down.

I wasn't around the last time so I'd be down for a '70s redo too.

Actually, the '70s draft was in 2008:

(ETA) God, that's a long time ago.

If we want to wait until around Halloween, a Dracula casting draft would be a lot of fun.

I have enough free time to run a draft if we do it in the next two weeks. Should I set up a poll for voting on what draft we want to do?

Just pick one and start a sign up page.  We've had several options come up, all of which have champions.  Grab the one that tickles your fancy and run with it.

Done and done.

Ha!  Good luck to whomever tries to gender swap THIS one!

I think on the KO front, we could get a lot of mileage out of mixing in some video games (we break it down into fighting games, RPGs, FPS-es, platformers, beat em ups, multiplayer games, movie adaptations?), and also that when SPECTRE comes out we could do several specific iterations on Bond - movies, villains, girls, henchmen, maybe even kills?

I was also kicking around the idea of Evil Overlords.  I threw together a list of 25 pretty quickly, and I bet there are some fairly popular fantasy series I'm overlooking.

We pretty well covered the Bond films with a bunch of knockouts right before SKYFALL came out....films, opening title sequences, theme songs, villains, girls, henchmen, probably a few others.

How did I miss that?

I guess because I'm not much of a Bond head.  But still, you think you know a sewer...

My idea for a knockout is for Westerns. Searched for it, couldn't find it. With Hateful 8 and The Revenant coming out soon, think it would be fun to revisit this amazing genre.

Could be fun to see how recent Westerns like Unforgiven, Open Range, The Proposition, Assassination of Jesse James, and Django etc compete with the giants of old.

AThe problem with Westerns is that how do you narrow it down? There's always going to be some left out.

A Western draft though...

You'd have to limit Westerns to recent decades. Hit the 50s or earlier and you're starting with a list of thousands.

I missed out on Judas'  Sergio Leone draft. That seemed epic.

As for narrowing the list down to decades, I think that ruins the fun of it, because there are pretty clear winners in every decade. But taking the best of each decade and making them battle it out, cage match style will produce a highly refined list of classics. But maybe I haven't seen enough Westerns to truly know how deep that well goes.

Edit: I misread your post a little, and would agree to mostly limit the pre 50's Westerns, as pretty much every other movie was a Western.

The bigger problem I imagined would be in figuring out what constitutes a Western, and whether to include films like Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, No Country for Old Men, There Will be Blood.

You should have been here for the Western casting draft that we did a little while ago.  Good fun, Arjen.

Thought of a good movie for a future casting draft: AIRPLANE!

Ted Striker

Elaine Dickinson

Captain Oveur

Dr. Rumack

Steve McCroskey

Captain Rex Kramer

Johnny

Murdock

Randy

Jive Lady

AFor the next draft, what if we did Action Sequences?

I'd be up for that as the next one.  I might want to run the AIRPLANE! casting draft in a few months, though...maybe around Thanksgiving.

AAirplane is a movie that works because it hit just the right note with that style of comedy. The roles may be memorable, but the characters aren't, if that makes sense. They're just stock characters as vehicles for jokes. As such, I don't really think it's a great choice for a casting draft.

Also, personally I'd like to move away from casting drafts for awhile. The other drafts are less repetitive and offer more wide ranging discussion possibilities.

Action sequences is an interesting idea. A few thoughts: Would you limit it to one action sequence per franchise? Would you include foreign films? And would you include terrible movies that happen to have great action sequences?

Maybe I misunderstood. Drafting action sequences is different than a knockout, which is what I thought you meant.

No, yes, yes, and draft (not KO)

Yeah, I'm on board.  Make it happen, Schwartz...I'll play.

AI'm an idea man, not an organizer!

But I'll see what can be done when I get back from traveling for the holiday weekend.

Westerns or a decade draft. I think tackling this decade now that we're at the halfway point would be intriguing.

I'm down with Action Sequence.

Also still on board for 1950s or Television Drama drafts!

I should run this... but every time I think it would be a good time upcoming someone beats me to it and does another casting draft.

Always in for 50s.

AWe've talked about 50s for years. We ought to just do it.
