So, just to be clear, if you're picking one of your cops, the character you choose doesn't actually have to be a cop in the original role? I'm not sure I get it.
It SHOULD be a cop or law enforcement officer for the main roles. You can do what you want but it has to make sense.
Can we have a bonus pick using any of the categories we haven't already covered in our list? And how about one more category: The politician who wants results. Someone's gotta be on the police chief's ass to get things done.

Yes and yes.  Adding the politician to the optional roles.
I am in.
good to have you, Boone.
I will *not* participate, as I'll defer to the experts, but I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's picks.

we'd love to have you if you want to join.  Please consider this an invitation.  Smile
Appreciate it, but I can't guarantee I'll be around to pick a lot for this one... My 15th anniversary is tomorrow and I'm doing a bunch of job-seeking and other stuff this weekend and the week ahead. Thanks!
I thought I signed up for this, but I guess I didn't. I'd like to play if there's still time.
Some clarifications:

1. When we say cop/law enforcement, are we counting private eyes?

2. What about ex-cops?

3. What if a character is an ex-cop at the end of the work, but one of the actors made reference to what would have happened if there was a sequel, in which that character is still in law enforcement?

You're in!  I'll update the appropriate threads.

1. Private Eyes are a bit of a grey area.  I think it can work, as long as it's within the spirit of the draft.

2. For what, the leads?  As supporting characters, sure.  For the leads...again, I think it can work as long as it's within the spirit of the draft.

3. Only on Sundays.

The idea on this draft is to have fun.  Make your dream team of a buddy cop film/show using all of the characters available in cinema and television.  That's a very wide net, and I bet several of you will be drawing water from your very own wells and not be competing with others.  That's fine!  I want to admire how clever your concepts and imagine how the thing would play out.

Be clever!  Be daring!  Be brash!
Most importantly, have fun!
FYI I will absolutely be missing my draft times tomorrow, but for a ridiculously cool reason I can't wait to share with everyone.
A suggestion: how about an option for a 2nd main villain? Not a henchman, but maybe 2nd case/ or intertwined case that brings the buddy cops together? Or perhaps a rival to the 1st villain? That could open up some fun possibilities.
I haven't been able to sleep much, mind racing on how I'm gonna play this.

I go about middle of the day, so the first wave will really determine how I roll. I have rough ideas for a Ultimate Cop Action draft, A Ultimate Funny Buddy Cop version, or, finally, a weird kinda grindhouse-y/ drive-in sleazo version.

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that my picks will be pretty specific of an era - i'm not going to mix tape decades (much).

I like the idea that it will feel like they could all be in a movie together of the time -not sure if I'm phrasing that right, but u get the gist.

I'll add this.
Dickson, you bastard!

I almost went with someone else first, but Hopps is kinda the linchpin of my concept.
Yep, Hopps is a good one.

I got stuck with a conference call this morning and totally spaced on the initial draft time. My top choices for today were Robocop and Tequila, and I'm absolutely not surprised that Molt took Robocop.
Nice start so far.

Been struggling with my concept since I joined and I think I finally got it. One of my choices will be very on brand for me, but who cares?

Also, very minor thing, but Judas, do you think we could get a list of the roles we're casting at the top of each draft day? That would be easier than having to click back and forth.

I'll do the chosen again if nobody else is planning on it.

So much for my FREEBIE & THE BUN title.  Alas.

Dammit, there goes my favorite movie cop.  Nice pick, Judas.

I can do that, sure.  Great idea.

And I'd be obliged if you handled the Chosen list.  Thanks!

He might be my favorite movie cop as well.  He's definitely my favorite CYF role.

Really needed Robo for my concept. I'm pretty sure my Cop #2 will last until my slot at the end of the day. But we'll see.
digging the Jack Traven pick.
Traven is my solid, straightforward, can adapt to many different possibilities pick. Just in case I don't get my Cop#2.
Speed is a perfect movie, importantly because every actor feels like they were there for a some kind of civic blood duty. I can't see it with any other cast.

Keanu's performance is dripping with the precise kind of 90's attitude that makes it irreplaceable. He reveals that the moment he whispers "shoot the hostage." Peak deadpan coolness.

The number of times one of my friends and I have suddenly screamed IT WAS CAAAAAANNNNS!!!!!! in his voice is obscene.

Sorry (not sorry) for swiping Tequila, but Traven is a damned fine pick.
Reeves is a great classic action cop in SPEED. He dropped a lot of the mannerisms that he was prone to up until that point and nailed it.
I too was planning on taking Tequila. But my Cop 1 gives me a lot of options.

Surprised I never thought of Batman but yeah, that works.
He's the world's greatest detective!
Boone, that is hilarious. After picking Traven I saw Arjen pick Batman, and I thought "why did I just limit myself to cops?" I have been a huge fan of Devil in a Blue Dress since it came out, and I always wanted a sequel. My next thought was, who would make a good pairing with Easy, and I immediately thought of Crowe as Bud White. It's like you read my fucking mind (or I read yours.)

Also digging the Dirty Harry and Bullit pairing.
Fat Elvis coming on really, really strong with his first two picks.

Loving the George Francisco pick as well. Pairing him up with John McClane is a very fun idea.

And Bud White and Easy Rawlins...damn.
My pick of Ed Exley ten years after L.A. Confidential as the chief of police is the better Ellroy choice!

Will anyone have the courage to round out the trio?
