Starts Sunday 7/15. Could be awesome. Smart to keep the project super hush-hush, that is exactly how it should be when SBC is getting up to his old tricks (Bruno was nearly a decade ago!). This is the right time for a comeback for a no hyperbole comedic genius. Cannot wait.
The first 10 minutes are now available for free: http://ew.com/tv/2018/07/15/sacha-baron-...amprecirc1

Wow.

(Also, Nathan Fielder is one of the people credited with working on this. Looks like I may have to get Showtime again.)
Holy shit.
I had no idea about this and seeing the ad on TV almost made me choke on my food.
The Kinderguardians segment is absolutely brilliant - and also super depressing.
I can see this really falling into the 'satire paradox' with some gun nuts happily using the template for the instructional video they make here.
You probably aren’t wrong.
Jesus.

This really goes to show what narcissistic camera whores these clowns are. That they can be duped by Borat is a real testament to how completely out of touch they are with anything even vaguely resembling reality.

All of this is true, but I also think we underestimate just how willing people in general are to roll with this stuff when the deception is so intricate.

Especially with Cohen not having engaged in this kind of thing for a pretty long time.  Memories are short and Borat was a while ago.

We're seeing the bursts of payoff to what I imagine is a whole lot of footage of them being schmoozed for the extended setup.
They're still dumb camera whores, regardless.
I already said that everything you said was true!!
Haha, look at the host mustering every ounce of self-control not to howl with laughter into Walsh's face.
When dude mentioned "The pheromone Blink-182" I did an actual spit take.

Reading reviews of this, the criticisms are kind of stunning, complaining that Baron Cohen is being too "cruel" and "cynical," as if he's not dealing with the most cynical hucksters in our country.

Buying Showtime again now.
If anyone has not ordered the channel yet, website says they're doing a free 1 month trial right now for new customers

lol at all the marks complaining about it to the news outlets. I'm sure SBC appreciates all the free publicity.

Not only that, but the ‘they tricked me into reading a teleprompter’ defense plays right into Cohen’s point. Either these guys believe something reprehensible, or they’re willing to read anything remotely pro-gun put in front of them once exchange for an ‘award’, some free publicity, and a night once a nice hotel room, making them lobbyist lap dogs.

Also, I’m sooooo glad they got Rohrbacher.  He’s easily in my top 5 most punchible congressmen.
I dunno...the first 3 bits had moments but were kinda “meh”. The gun stuff saved it. Shame they spoiled it instead of saving it for a surprise.

The gallery owner yanking out some pubes for the paint brush was something else.
Apart from the last segment I did get a kick out of his dinner with the conservatives. Cohen's good at unmasking fake civility
That premiere may be the funniest thing I have ever seen on TV in my 30 years.

It's also one of the most demented, vicious satires I've ever seen, one that makes Borat look like Fox News. It reminded me of Nathan for You (and Nathan Fielder is a consulting producer on this) or Adult Swim's immortal Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule reformatted as a news program.

I was sweating profusely from laughing so hard, specifically the ex-con and his artistic endeavors. The fact that that segment went as far as it did wasn't repulsive. It was exactly what this country deserves for Drumpf's election: a grotesque, surreal mirror image of the idea of patriotism, made even more absurd by what we've seen from this horror show in our history in the last 18 months. People actually are that shameless in the Drumpf era.

In one half-hour, we get not only that ex-con but the first two segments are deserved fuck-you's to Bernie Bros and Johnston/Stein voters as well as the sheepish motivations of GOP delegates to nominate Drumpf.

"Kinderguardians" is the best Paul Verhoeven satire never made.

Leave it to Sacha Baron Cohen to construct satire that doesn't normalize any of this. SNL should just call it a day on political skits until Drumpf is out of office.
Female delegate & hubby. So many questions.
"That premiere may be the funniest thing I have ever seen on TV in my 30 years."

You'd probably like the old Chris Morris series Brass Eye then, it was doing this kind of thing about 20 years ago, pissed off a lot of establishment types in the UK (including the guy running the TV station it was shown on). The Drugs episode was basically a masterclass in this kind of thing, loads of politicians and celebs lining up to denounce something they'd never heard of and knew nothing about.
Damn, Daniel. Always happy to see a friend's name in the credits.

Loved it, especially the Gaetz segue way into that montage, followed up by the killer blow of Kinderguardians.

You were right Waaaaaaaalt!
the art gallery lady came off really kind and understanding!
She certainly was! When he wrote that he probably thought that would be the moment where she stormed off. When she was clipping her pubes I imagine he was floored.
This show is asking a question that has clearly already been answered.

Same here. That segment made me deeeeeeeply uncomfortable in a "I can't believe he's taking it this far" sort of way.

I also felt like that segment came off primarily about his performance and the hosts essentially faded pretty quickly.
I was very lukewarm on the premier, but this episode was absolutely jaw dropping.
"Today we burned down a village and launched a grenade at a hospital."
holy moly
I went nuts when I saw Corrine. I had an editing gig where she shot something and was so racist they canned the show and made me wipe all of the footage.
"What is that?"
"It looks like a Glock .45."

Jesus. I just started the episode, and I already have to take a break to recover.
Amazing.
