AI always assumed she was 18 when she had that first affair with Indy, but looking at wiki she was 16 when Indy was 26... Yeah, pretty skeevy. It's very fortunate that Indy wasn't shown sleeping with his students... which was also in George's original pitch.

Are we sure "Mutt" wasn't just a nickname intended for Shia's character?

- MrSaxon - 10-04-2016

If Indiana Jones: The Ultimate Guide is to be believed, then it's definitely a nickname (and Mutt's real name is Henry Walton Jones III). Not sure where author James Luceno plucked that bit of information from, though, as I've not read it.

- fatherdude - 10-04-2016

Marion calls him Henry Jones III in the movie.  Also, Mutt claims that he chose the nickname himself.

- MrSaxon - 10-04-2016

Ah, there you go! Haven't watched the movie since my initial viewing eight years ago.

- Stale Elvis - 10-04-2016

AMutt. You see, named after the dog. Like his father.

It's like poetry...

- mr. stockslivevan - 10-04-2016

AWell, so were Willie and Short Round.

I'm fine with the name "Mutt", it fits the scrappy nature of that character.

Doggerel, you could even say.

- arjen rudd - 10-04-2016

AI think it tries far too hard, and sounds silly to boot. So does Short Round, but I like Short Round.

- mr. stockslivevan - 10-04-2016

AShort Round was the better sidekick.

Pretty glaring they didn't bring him back for the wedding. He's always slighted.

- arjen rudd - 10-04-2016

AHell, Short Round was the better son to Indiana Jones.

I wish Indy had told Mutt that.

- MichaelM - 10-04-2016

Someone recognize my pun, goddammit.

The name Short Round is a tribute to Samuel Fuller's masterpiece, THE STEEL HELMET. Given THE STEEL HELMET's sensitivity to racial issues, and the tragic nature of the Short Round character in that film, it's kind of odd to see the name reused in TEMPLE.

- fatherdude - 10-04-2016

If an idea isn't problematic, it has no business being in TEMPLE OF DOOM.

(I still think it might be the best one.)

- agentsands77 - 10-04-2016

ATEMPLE *is* the best one.

- mr. stockslivevan - 10-04-2016

AI dunno if it's the best one, but it's certainly my very favorite. I love how manic it gets. I wish Spielberg would recognize to give himself more credit for that film, than let the then lukewarm reception of the time influence his perception.

You accomplished much more than just finding your wife in that!

- carnotaur3 - 10-04-2016

AI wish Spielberg would be that adventurous approaching the new one.

- mr. stockslivevan - 10-04-2016

ATINTIN showed he's still capable of it. I hope he brings that with INDY 5 too.

- carnotaur3 - 10-04-2016

AI kind of mean in terms of story and structure, being able to stay off the well beaten path.

- bartleby_scriven - 10-05-2016

You know, I still like Crystal Skull.

Not as good as Star Trek into Darkness, tho.

- freeman - 10-05-2016

AWhy?

- mr. stockslivevan - 10-05-2016

AI want to love CRYSTAL SKULL, but I only marginally like it.

- MrSaxon - 10-05-2016

Crystal Skull is the Star Trek: Voyager of the Indiana Jones movies.

- bartleby_scriven - 10-05-2016

Caveat: bad CGI, tone-deaf cinematography (why so hazy?!), wonky science (something that usually doesn't bother me, but the inconsistent rules of the alien magnetism, oy) and everything having to do with Ox. These are bad, bad things.

BUT

I love Indy and Mutt together. I don't care about the Beef in reality these last eight years, but in Crystal Skull he has great chemistry with Ford. There's an hour stretch, in the U.S. and then in South America, with just the two of them that I think is a legit worthy Indy 4. Blanchett is also really fun as the villain.

Then Ox and Marion come in...

Even then I really dig the jungle/thresher sword fight.

Until the monkeys...

So yeah, an hour there in the middle, then I turn the movie off.

- agentsands77 - 10-05-2016

AI'd agree that, up until Marion's introduction, KINGDOM is a bit lethargic and wonky and exposition-heavy, but not outright horrible.

It's that last half/third that really sinks KINGDOM.
