Close!  It's "pretty terrific!"
Part 2:  "Pretty decent!"
Part 3:  "Better than Part 2!"

The rest, I can't vouch for.

I have a friend who has seen and memorized all of the Police Academy movies. It's not really a skill that comes up much, but he has it.
I was in a horror-comedy called BLACK HOLLER. It's now on Prime Video. Check it out!

I'm a Gen Xer and I have no love for the Police Academy series.

Me neither. I do remember the first one being pretty funny in an early 80s R-rated way. The podium scene is particularly good. The sequels did nothing for me, though.

Theme song is fucking great.

For all his faults, I think Bill Clinton deserves a little credit for kick starting the revival. I think it was '16 convention he shared story of watching the Police Academy movies with Chelsea. That's both so Bill Clinton and so very cool Dad.

I didn't even know it had a theme song.

I remember the PA movies (and that theme tune) with fondness, but I feel like they won't hold up on rewatch. The cringey Blue Oyster bar stuff, cuddly gun fetishist Tackleberry, Hightower disguised in some stereotyped getup chanting faux voodoo gibberish etc.

That Leslie Easterbrook pool scene got rewound a fair bit back in the day, though.
Reply
Think we might be confusing Hightower with Dennis Haysbert in "Major League." All the humor around Hightower's character is based on his immense strength and stature.
Reply
Never saw that movie. A scene in a van where they're trying to scare some crooks or something and he's chanting "Yama Yama Yama Yama Yama". I know I didn't dream this. One of the sequels.

It's the Predator 2 of Police Academy films.

It's a hero's Pomp & Circumstance. It's a melody, to me, that's as iconic as any other of the great film melodies from the 80's. Without it, I don't think the series gets as far as it did.
If I could change to liquid, I'd fill the cracks and bend the rocks.

I don't know which sequel it was in but that part where we meet the other members of Tackleberry's family and it turns out they're even nuttier than he is, and they casually start punching each other until it turns into a brawl is the first time I can remember laughing so hard I thought I would piss myself.

When did this become the Police Academy thread?

I pretty sure Brad is Steve Guttenberg.

If anyone here is Guttenberg, it is Gutterberg Fan Club. Turns out his message board posting is better than his acting

What was that Sy/ Fy movie that reunited the surviving cast? Was it worth a look?

Here's a potentially major development for getting a bunch of titles on Blu (either for the first time, or in remastered fashion)...

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/v...al-1286478

Bottom line: Paramount (who are open to licensing deals with boutique labels) will control many Miramax films.

Could pave the way for a new release of SCREAM, just for one example, which is desperately needed.
