Gun Control thread
The NRA has reported expenditures on foreign fundraising for the first time in its history:

https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2019/12...ndraising/

Quote:The National Rifle Association disclosed spending on foreign fundraising for the first time in the gun rights group’s history as it faced a multimillion-dollar shortfall for a third consecutive year, new tax returns reveal.

Despite that foreign fundraising, federal government grants and millions of dollars siphoned from its charities, the NRA spent more than it brought in last year. The tax filing unearths details of the NRA’s finances amid mounting scandals during the first election cycle in recent history where gun control groups outspent their pro-gun counterpart.

While the NRA’s disclosed spending on foreign fundraising makes up only a small slice of the operation’s total 2018 outlay, the actual amount of money brought in by that fundraising is unknown. The NRA is not allowed to use foreign funds to influence elections. But as a 501©(4) nonprofit, it can continue to spend millions of dollars on political activity without revealing its funders, how much foreign money it takes in or what that money was spent on.

Some funding information can be extracted from the NRA’s sponsorship program memberships and other public records. Many of the NRA’s biggest disclosed allies and corporate funders stem from outside the U.S.

Celebratory gunfire doesn't sound like a good idea:

https://abc7chicago.com/5806055/?ex_cid=...ce=twitter

Quote:A 61-year-old woman celebrating the new year with her family is dead after she was shot by celebratory gunfire, deputies say.

This happened just after midnight in the 12300 block of May Laurel Drive in the Laurel Oaks subdivision.

Authorities said the woman, identified as Philippa Ashford, was standing at the end of the driveway while family and friends in the cul-de-sac were shooting off fireworks, when she suddenly clutched her body and said, "I think I've been shot."

She collapsed to the ground and died.

"At this point from our witnesses and seeing at the scene, we believe this may very well be a case of celebratory gunfire somewhere else in the neighborhood," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "No indication a family member or anyone else in the cul-de-sac was discharging a firearm."

Ashford worked for The Menninger Clinic for more than 15 years, the center confirmed. She was the nurse manager for the acute stabilization unit, which is in the crisis psychiatric branch.

According to a clinic spokesperson, she was in charge of about 25 other nurses and was a mentor to the resident nurses.

I guess Mr T decided not to tweet about the three gross neo-nazi neckbeards that were just arrested by the FBI for planning to attack the Virginia state house on Monday.

Careful. For a moment I was wondering what the one and only Mr. T had to do with any of this. You frightened me.

So, no gun rally in Virginia is complete without a weirdly rascist poster.

It is like that blackface scene from MadMen. So odd

Former Proud Boy-turned-Nazi provocateur Jovi Val recently held a rally to support the man who killed Heather Heyer.  He's in Virginia for the rally, denying the Holocaust:

Video at the link.  Others too, including one that shows a confused, old conservative who wasn't comfortable that he was on the side of a Hitler-loving asshole, so he grabbed his security blanket and called Val a "liberal" and a "communist."

I guess these are the people Trump's supporting on social media.

EDIT:

I guess signs like this further show just how desperately some of these people shouldn't have fallen asleep in history class:

Northam's an idiot who should step down, though.

Upon further reading, apparently the VA governor dressed in black face and the drawing I posted is him. Still weirdly racist.

I swear to god it is unbelievable that anyone could defend KKK Blackface Ralph "Coonman" Northam.

Is there any liberal defending him?

He needs to step down, as pretty much everyone has been saying since the scandal hit.

We got some documents from the white nationalists arrested in Virginia.  They planned to kill gun-rights activists and police officers in order to ignite a race war:

https://apnews.com/e5d17a8735678aa604a22f011c2685db

Quote:A hidden camera captured members of a white supremacist group expressing hope that violence at a gun rights rally in Virginia this week could start a civil war, federal prosecutors said in a court filing Tuesday.

Former Canadian Armed Forces reservist Patrik Jordan Mathews also videotaped himself advocating for killing people, poisoning water supplies and derailing trains, a prosecutor wrote in urging a judge in Maryland to keep Mathews and two other members of The Base detained in federal custody.

But the 27-year-old Canadian national didn’t know investigators were watching and listening when he and two other group members talked about attending the Richmond rally in the days leading up to Monday’s event, which attracted tens of thousands of people and ended peacefully.

Last month, a closed-circuit television camera and microphone installed by investigators in a Delaware home captured Mathews talking about the Virginia rally as a “boundless” opportunity.

“And the thing is you’ve got tons of guys who ... should be radicalized enough to know that all you gotta do is start making things go wrong and if Virginia can spiral out to (expletive) full blown civil war,” he said.
