JUSTICE LEAGUE Post-Release Discussion

She also claims Cyborg is one of the best things in the movie so she's obviously insane!

All this comes back to hiring Zack Snyder to launch the DC universe with Man of Steel, and first giving him significant artistic freedom and then yanking it away.

My hindsight-y opinion is that WB should've gone with one of the Harry Potter -directors.

That dovetails nicely into a visual metaphor for this film and the DCEU in general.

ADidn't that already happen a long time ago?

Something tells me Fett ain't ever making it off Brad's block list.

AI wouldn't even agree that it jumped the shark simply because it's been rocky from the start. What I've been hoping for was the DCEU to Grow the Beard. But I guess WB would rather digitally scrub that off.

He'll get over it just in time before the AQUAMAN pre-release thread pops up.

I really can't believe they spent $300 million dollars on this mess.

The single best way to get off Brad's block list: FANCASTING! Robbie Coltrane for Lex Luthor! Emma Watson for Lois Lane! Maggie Smith for Marfha!

I think the fact that she's in a bad movie just exacerbates her weaknesses as an actress.  But she flat out sucks, I just cannot hold my tongue about the obvious, I'm sorry.  It was one of the biggest head scratchers of the movie for me, wondering what the hell she was doing in that movie because everyone else is pretty good in the acting department... no one is doing their best work, but they're serviceable.  She's just bad.  All you have to do is look at what Amy Adams was doing, actually emoting and having presence and you can tell she's a good actress hampered by a bad movie vs. what Gadot was doing, which was just kind of standing around looking pretty.  You can tell she got acting lessons and can do the basics for a camera, but you can also tell she doesn't have the innate gift good actors have where it seems effortless.  Gadot looks like she's "trying" to act rather than just acting.  I'm trying my best to explain this without insulting her, I just think she should be in smaller roles that don't require carrying an important character.  This becomes even more glaring when you realize there are so many better actresses they could've got.

I thought she was TERRIBLE, and then I liked Wonder Woman and I thought she was fine there, so now I don't know what to think.

The irony is she is the best actress for Wonder Woman. She proves it in her solo movie. Guess it comes down to direction for her.

She's the female Channing Tatum.

AGadot was very fun in her solo film but that's probably due to not just the right material but having the right collaborators to work with. She really shines in that in a way she doesn't in other films. She may not ever make a great leading actress in anything else, but at least she got Wonder Woman down in her solo film.

Kind of like Christopher Reeve who, with all due respect, thrived in the Superman role but was embarrassingly bad in everything else he did.

I remember Gadot getting notices as being a "highlight" in Batman v Superman, and I have no idea what those people were talking about. She was dreadfully bad. Had maybe 15 lines, they all come off stilted and her main objective was to look bad-ass in Snyder-O-Vision (slow-motion action with that heavy metal theme). So yeah I was dreading her headlining Wonder Woman based on that. But to her credit, she's much better. Maybe because she's grown into the part but mostly due to Jenkins surrounding her with better actors thus helping to elevate her performance.

It's not on the level of Reeve as Supes as many nerdgasmed this summer but she worked just fine in her solo outing.

AI'll be surprised to find myself remotely interested in the Cyborg character. Just a total waste of space.

Nothing in this movie is "interesting" per se, but Cyborg was the only one who seemed to have some kind of "thing" going on.  It's like focusing on the peanuts in a pile of shit... it's something at least.

Do they do the thing from the comics where his father is just a total cunt to him and that's about the extent of characterization?

Reply

Maybe it was the actor playing him or the stuff with his dad, but Cyborg was the only one who didn't seem thrown in the movie at the last second.

Reply

It's hard to describe, it's just different with him.  I suppose he had the most interesting bits of business as a character... he's pretty heavily involved in the super weapon.

Reply

The Cyborg stuff and the parademons and mother boxes makes me think this is heavily based on the New52 arc, I think you guys brought up that animated Justice League War movie which was the same story?

...  I don't care much for that story.
