SHAZAM! (2019) Pre-Release Thread

First (leaked) photo is out of Levi in the costume. I wasn't sure if I should post it here (I can never remember about unofficial pics), so peep it here if you're so inclined.

That is both colorful and more comics-accurate than I would have guessed. Makes me think they're really going to be leaning into the family-friendly fantasy aspects of the story.

The costume kind of reminds me of Robbie Rotten from Lazy Town

So..... this is Big: The Superhero Movie, right? I know nothing about this character but that's how I'm imagining it from the description.

No offence to Zach Levi but I'm surprised they didn't get a bigger name for the title role.

What're they gonna do, have Josh Brolin play three comic book characters at once? We're runnin outta movie stars!

It looks fine.

Though I imagine it will be used in a specific way where it isn't the final suit, a la how they did it in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Sadly, the two perfect big names for the role are currently obsessed with playing Gambit and Black Adam, respectively.

AI dunno...casting wise DC has actually been pretty good, yes including Leto as Joker.

It’s everything else that can be sketchy.

DC's casting of heroes have ranged from good (I enjoyed Bat-fleck and EZ-Flash much more than I thought I would and have no problem with Aqua Bro) to spot on perfect (Cavill, Gadot, Adams, Irons, and Pine).

It's the villains that have been problematic.

Leto?  No.

Thewlis?  I like Thewlis, but he was wrong for the role of the Greek God of War.

Doomsday?  CGI Fucktardedness.

Steppenwolf?  I actually thought he had some great lines, but more CGI Fucktardness.

Cara Devilbologna as shimmy-shimmy native girl?  Can't act.  Terrible.

Mark Zuckerberg as Luthor?  Are you fucking kidding me?

Zod and his crew (Faora was unbelievably fetch) may be the only ones they've gotten even close to right.

AIt’s strange to think it’s (the villains) something Marvel and DC equally struggle at when it’s arguably the easiest part to get right.

I mean, how do you fuck up casting Lex Luthor that badly?

If he doesn’t the movie is a failure.

I'd count Wonder Woman's supporting villains as successes, especially Dr. Poison.

Photos of the front of the suit are out there on Reddit and I gotta say, they really did go all-in on the comics design. It's incredibly faithful and Golden Age-y.

I've not seen it, but apparently there's video footage out there taken from one of the shooting days, and I've seen critical comments that Levi is apparently playing the character like a wide-eyed child in a super hero's body...... which is exactly what the character IS, right? One Youtuber commented that Shazam is meant to be Billy's idealized version of a superhero, so he wouldn't be acting like this but *shrug*

To be honest, I hate the fact that people are stamping on this thing because someone filmed a minute of shooting on their cell phone. At least let them release a clip or a teaser before making assessments.

That could easily be from his first time transforming, being in awe of the experience.
And that suit is pretty damn great.
This looks like it could inject some much needed colour, whimzy and fun in the DCU

Oh man, I really hope Cavill's Superman gets a cameo as Billy's ideal superhero he's trying to model himself after.

Notice the tiger emblems on his lapel...

I agree, it's a great looking suit.

Billy/Captain Marvel is a kid in a superhero's body but it's balanced out by "The Wisdom of Solomon." Though that aspect of the character waxes and wanes with different writers.

I'm consistently amazed at how many people overact and don't know how these movies will ultimately play out, despite having seen almost every superhero movie released before it.

You'd think Morgan Freeman would be a better option as an old, wizened sorcerer--I guess he's still Lucius Fox in DC's eyes.
I'm still avian.

Morgan Freeman is too on the nose obvious though, like everyone fancasting Cranston as Lex Luthor. It would be too much of a cliche. Even if he would do a bang up job.

Ehh, Hounsou is pretty on the nose. I'm sure he's played the wise mentor in three separate YA movies.

Confirming I have zero interest in this.

For those who are cautiously optimistic: you have my sincere support in hoping it turns out to be something you dig. But I am far too tedious and literal for this.

I also have negative interest in this here moving picture, especially with the people involved behind the camera.

Those phony shoulders make me wonder if this is set in the 80's. Can't even secure a major cola sponsor? Bomb inc

It's not Soder Cola, the popular brand in the comics?

I guess I'll have to see the cola in motion.
