Duncan Jones's ROGUE TROOPER Pre-Release
From twitter today.

I know his output post-Source Code hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but I think he's still a talented dude. And while I'm in the minority in liking 'Mute' I think even the detractors of that one would admit that he shot a grimy future metropolis pretty well. I'm interested in what he does with 2000AD.
Fuck yes im in.

What the fuck?

"The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision."
Really good news.

I only know Rogue Trooper as some forgettable game that released years ago (and i think recently had a remaster).

Had no idea it was part of its own franchise. Probably explains the remaster.
I think all Marvel films are okay. This is my design.

Except for Thor 2: the literal worst.
Aw man, I was hoping for a Warcraft sequel.

Just kidding. Nobody wanted that.

This is fantastic news and now will give me the excuse to catch up on RT!

I'd like to see another warcraft
I totally forgot he did Warcraft.

And he followed that up with Mute?

Oh shit. I am SO down for this.
Not a hard man to track. Leaves dead men wherever he goes.
He's not quite District 9 guy levels of sophomore slump, but...

I actually think Jones' slump has been worse than Blomkamp's. While it's nearly the definition of "2 out of 4 stars," I'd take Elysium over any of Jones' post-Moon output (for all the surface appeal of its starting gimmick, Source Code turns out to be an absolute cluster-fuck of total narrative nonsense). Maybe I'd take Warcraft over Chappie, I dunno, Warcraft is a movie where I'm not sure what I am supposed to get out of it or how I'm supposed to enjoy it other than maybe it'd help if I was a Warcraft fan, whereas Chappie I at least have an idea of how I'm supposed to be engaging with it on its own terms. I'd definitely take Chappie, unholy mess that it is, over Mute, which was just an excruciating, awkward, and fundamentally wrong-headed-at-every-level slog of a movie.

I actually was not at all impressed with how Duncan Jones did the future in that movie, except for that one "car chase" scene. Everything else felt like a rather slipshod mix of just modern day Berlin with a bevy of uninspired Blade Runner homages. And I thought the way the film was lit and composed did nothing to establish the mood Jones' was probably hoping to achieve.

I'm not familiar with Rogue Trooper, actually, but even though I've pretty much hated all of Jones' stuff after Moon I will give him the benefit of the doubt, just as I always will with creatives who I really feel are trying to do something interesting with their work.
the empire never ended
I was just discussing that Rogue Trooper would make a great movie the other day. So I'm in.

Also, I would take a Warcraft sequel and I don't even like the game.
