ALL I WANNA DO/STRIKE/THE HAIRY BIRD is high school.

I feel like if you're going to do this, you want to be narrower in your choice of movies. Like, SOCIAL NETWORK is a movie set at a college, but it's not about college. Same with MALLRATS - the characters in it are college aged, but it's not a "college movie." And to say "post-high school" as a definition is just too broad for my tastes.

I wanted to find a way to include both ANIMAL HOUSE + DINER. They both ironically represent to me the different paths people take right out of HS.

These were just suggestions I'm throwing out. I figured stuff could be added or subtracted.

I think you're right about ALL I WANNA DO. We should've had that in the HS KO. It's a sleeper classic.

MAKING THE GRADE might be Prep school, too. I was just spit-balling.

Buster Keaton's COLLEGE?
Harold Lloyd's THE FRESHMAN?

Too underseen maybe?
I was in a horror-comedy called BLACK HOLLER. It's now on Prime Video. Check it out!

Another thing we agree on, brother!

I just feel like "paths people take after high school" is so exceptionally broad, though. Are you going to put JARHEAD on there? What about STOP-LOSS or BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY? If you're going to explore the paths different folx take, I feel like the military experience should be represented.

More college horror, please.

Off the top of my head:

Black Christmas
The House on Sorority Row
Urban Legend
Happy Death Day
Night of the Creeps
Scream 2

And of course the timeless classic Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College.

Some great suggestions!

I'll narrow the list late tonite, and we can have the end of week/ weekend to tinker.

I'm thinking list will be 95 percent pure college experience, with just a few diff path wild cards like DINER, BIG WEDNESDAY, JARHEAD, INTO THE WILD...

Here's my whittled down/ expanded list.

*Boone: It was a great idea, but I decided not to include the military experience of films like JARHEAD. I think there's so many, it could make for a separate KO.

Also, I'm including THE SOCIAL NETWORK, because looking through a lot of 'Best College Movie' lists online yesterday, it popped up a lot. It seems to be a touchstone film. Feel free to vote it down, or make a strong case against it.

Suggestions are still open.

And as with fincher's film, feel free to shout down a title.

I think if we start at 50, it would be ideal.

3. School Daze
4. Revenge of the Nerds
5. Rules of Attraction
6. Back to School

I think "20something Ennui" is more of a draft topic than a KO. So I would still cut out a lot of those about dropouts, graduates and even those about graduate or specialty schools (Legally Blonde, Whiplash). I think there are plenty of films that focus on the "standard" undergraduate experience to fill out a KO of their own.

22 Jump Street being another.

I agree with Schwartz, not only because being in your 20s and filled with ennui is also reflected in many movies about young folks in the military.

Some of these my memory is kind of in the dead zone, so be specific which ones you guys think should be cut.

I'll concede, painful as it may be, on DINER, MALLRATS, FLAMINGO KID, ADVENTURELAND, BIG WEDNESDAY, BEFORE SUNRISE, INTO THE WILD for starters..

BIG WEDNESDAY, BEFORE SUNRISE, and INTO THE WILD are all excellent movies (haven't seen all the others). I'd hate to be voting them down just because I think the theme is mismatched to them.

Wait! In honor of the recent news of production starting soon on the third, can Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure get in, or is it too goofball? I mean, the whole thing is about them trying to pass high school history class so they can graduate!
If you're happy, you're not paying attention.

That would've been a great pick for the high school movie knock-out

It was excluded, along with BTTF and DETENTION and some others, on the basis that the sci-fi conceit overrides and distracts from the HS-ness of it all.

KOs don't require much running once the list is posted. The only thing to decide is when to half the remaining points.

But I could make the thread, no problem.

Well, that’s an interesting opinion. I don’t share it. IMHO, Taps is every bit as much of a movie about character’s high school experience as Risky Business or Dead Poets Society. But, this is about College movies, so whatever.
