GOOD BOYS (Gene Stupnitsky, 2019) Discussion, brought to you by Overlord
#1
This screened at SXSW in March and got some real nice notices.

"Between Eisenberg and Stupnitsky’s work here and Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart, SXSW 2019 has proven to be a hotbed for a new kind of teen (or in this case, preteen) comedy." -- Consequence of Sound

"Those who find joy in 11-year-olds dropping the F-bomb, and otherwise talking smack they really don’t understand, will be in hysterics for the full hour and a half of “Good Boys.”" -- Variety

"Stupnitsky and Eisenberg's script (which the former directs) is also far more clever and enlightened than your usual male-centric coming-of-age comedies." -- Some mystery site

I laughed a lot at this trailer and the other non-redband trailer #2. And I say that as a very classy and sophisticated person.

I thought the new trailer was funnier than the old one. But I'm nervous that all the funny stuff's in the trailer.

Every time I see the title for this I think it's a movie about a lot of really good dogs.

This looks good to me. Love both the stranger things line and when the kid flies into the truck and separates his shoulder. The post porn watching bit was good too.

The PORB typo made me laugh.  Damn qwerty keyboards.  This looks like stupid fun, plus it has President Splett getting locked in a convenience store with a dildo.  That is my head canon.

Has anyone seen this yet?  I'm afraid that all of the great jokes and gags were spoiled in the trailers and I'm looking for reassurance that this is as funny as I'm hoping.
I think these screen captures and giant (Dildi? Is there a plural?) are just the next step in the JJ Abrams online adventure series. Very slyly played, Bitches Leave.-Tom Fuchs

I’m heading out to see it tomorrow. I have that fear too but I’m still going to give it a shot.

The movie is short enough (a little under 90 mins) where there are a decent number of gags in the trailer, but the movie still has plenty of others and is overall, imo, fairly enjoyable.

Sure seemed like everything funny except the frat house scene was in the trailers.

I still liked it though. Might have helped that the crowd was into it.

I wish I stayed away from that last red band trailer but I'm still dying to see this. Hopefully next Saturday.

It's decent. Laughed a lot in the first hour. Runs out of steam around that time. Keith L. Williams steals it all. He's hysterical.

Most of the best bits are in the trailer but still landed well. It stalls for a while in the middle as they repeatedly false start on the inevitable third act fight/breakup drama a few times which keeps killing the pacing.
You won’t regret seeing it, although I’d say rental is more than fine.
