Yeah, even the leaders that listened to scientists and reacted quickly and intelligently didn't seem to understand how important it was to stress from the beginning that the pandemic would only end when a vaccine is created, and not before.

So now people who were trying to be safe are also acting like, "Well, I'm glad THAT'S over!"... except it's not.

I lost track of the number of times I heard the phrase "flattening the curve" in the early weeks, but I can count on one hand the number of times I heard it explained that this meant nothing more than slowing down the spread of the disease to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed.

Yes, the prediction that in the absence of a vaccine everyone will eventually become infected (and the best we can hope for is to slow the spread) has been underemphasized at best.
