The Composers, Scores, and the Chewers Who Love Them Thread

Carpenter used bits and pieces of what Morricone came up with (after Carpenter showed him a half-finished version of the film and then left him to his own devices) and then added his own touches--what's been released as a The Thing soundtrack is the Morricone stuff by itself (some of which isn't even in the film) not with the Carpenter bits. Or at least that's the two cent version of what I gleaned from a bit of googling...

As far as I can tell this is the closest you’ll get to the complete score. It’s Alan Howarth recreating Morricone’s score along with recreations of the bits that him and Carpenter added.

I’ve never listened to it myself but it seems to have decent reviews.

Yah that's what I ended up going with.

The Thing
1982 vinyl

The original pressing isn’t cheap but it has been repressed relatively recently

I used to be with "it", but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't "it", and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.   -Grandpa Simpson

Waxwork Records put out a solid repress of the full Morricone score that I picked up three years back that has since sold out unfortunately.
