I'm in.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Mangy - 05-18-2021

I won't be able to post until after 6pm Central, but I'd love to take part.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - boone daniels - 05-18-2021

Yes hello

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Richard Dickson - 05-18-2021

Definitely in.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Hot Sandwich - 05-18-2021

I think I'm out of my league here, but I'll give it a shot.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - bailey - 05-19-2021

Count me in.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - simbob - 05-21-2021

I guess I'll give it a shot.

I miss when getTV was like a 1930s - '50s movie station.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - ratty - 05-22-2021

Not remotely my deepest bench, but what the hell!  I'm in.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Richard Dickson - 05-23-2021

Point of order -- May 31 is Memorial Day and I imagine a lot of folks might not be around due to holiday things.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Pither - 05-23-2021

I forgot about that. I'd be open to moving the start date to the next week if it's an issue for people.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - bailey - 05-23-2021

Open to whenever. The holiday won't affect me.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - hammerhead - 05-23-2021

I'm in!

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - eviltwin - 05-24-2021

Sure. I'm game.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Judas Booth - 05-24-2021

I can make Monday (Memorial Day) work since all I'd need to do is drop a pick and walk away, but punting for another week works fine as well.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Pither - 05-24-2021

Just to err on the side of caution (I'd like as active a first day as possible), the start date is now June 7.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Fat Elvis - 05-25-2021

Just noticed this. I'm in like Flynn.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Pither - 05-31-2021

Just posting to remind everyone we start a week from today. I'm still hoping a few more people will sign up in the interim.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Richard Dickson - 06-07-2021

Can't believe I didn't think to ask this sooner -- what's the verdict on serials?

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - hammerhead - 06-07-2021

Is that it? Did I win?

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Richard Dickson - 06-07-2021

Kong was one of the ones I expected to go #1.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - hammerhead - 06-07-2021

It's one of the ten perfect movies.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - atomtastic - 06-07-2021

Big monkey

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Judas Booth - 06-07-2021

Ratty grabbed what would have been my #1 pick. I wrote it off when I saw my 'first draft position'...good thing, too.

I consider THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD to be one of the rare perfect films.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - hammerhead - 06-07-2021

It's right up there. There's a slight clashing of tones, though; it's pretty easy to distinguish Keighley's "storybook" approach from Curtiz's more mobile camera and use of shadow.

But I've always said, if you cut it down to just Olivia de Havilland's closeups you'd still have a classic for the ages.

I'll allow it.

It's still the definitive Robin Hood film even after 80+ years of other attempts.

Oh absolutely.  It's not even close.

The usual suspects are just flying off the board.

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Hot Sandwich - 06-07-2021

I thought I might get The Thin Man. Nope.

Nice pick.

if it makes you feel any better, it was between that and GRAND ILLUSION.  Nice pick yourself!

RE: 1930s Draft: Sign-up & Discussion - Richard Dickson - 06-07-2021

Had six films yanked off my list today. Good thing we're only making five picks.

My impression of me reading the choices before I posted my own:

"I think I'll pick---DAMMIT! Well, how about--DAMMIT! Maybe I can pick--DAMMIT!" etc.

Still got a good'n though.
