Four Movies, One Night: DIY Themed Film Fest
#1
Inspired by this tweet and a FB post by erstwhile citizen Bartleby:

You've been asked to host a Film Festival in your local park. It can be any theme or no theme at all. List them or post images of the films you'd choose.

And I'm going to cheat right off the bat. My film festival runs three nights.

Night One: Theme: the Feel Bad Quadrilogy

PAYBACK (1999 - theatrical cut)
MAN ON FIRE (2004)
LOGAN (2017)
THE GREY (2011)

Night Two: Theme: Contemplative SF

SUNSHINE (2007)
THE FOUNTAIN (2006)
SOLARIS (2002)
ARRIVAL (2016)

ANNHILATION (2018) and INTERSTELLAR (2014) were runners up.

Night Three: Theme: Crossed Swords

THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987)
THE MASK OF ZORRO (1998)
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1981)
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938)

Payback/The Limey is a double feature I legit want to do, MichaelM.

If I had to do one, it would be a Black & Silver Christmas:

Night 1:
Lethal Weapon
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Night 2:
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
The Last Boy Scout

If I had my own cheating Fourth of July weekend:

NIGHT 1 - URBAN PANIC
King of New York
Ricochet
Deep Cover
Judgment Night

NIGHT 2 - WHAT IS FUTURE IS PROLOGUE
RoboCop
They Live
Strange Days
Escape from L.A.

NIGHT 3 - DE PALMA-RALMA
The Fury
Blow Out
Body Double
The Untouchables

NIGHT 4 - HILL VALLEY
The Warriors
48 Hrs.
Streets of Fire
Extreme Prejudice

A manageable one-night triple feature of all-night sweaty dread: After Hours/Into the Night/Collateral.

Those are great, hunter.

I'd substitute TERMINATOR for ESCAPE FROM L.A., though.

EFLA has aged too perfectly for me not to include it there.

Richard - Strangelove was in a lineup with Network, They Live, and Wag the Dog that I had called "We Were Warned."

This should most definitely include RANSOM, which famously spoiled a big plot twist in the trailer.

Dinged 5 points for not including EXTREME PREJUDICE.

Bah, how could I forget EXTREME PREJUDICE

It could probably replace ROCKY III, where everybody is just lubed up with baby oil and slime. Nolte is doing some authentic sweating in EXTREME PREJUDICE.

Small Town U.S.A. -- Monsters and Mad Science
- GREMLINS (1984)
- THE BLOB (1958)
- SILVER BULLET (1985)
- BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985)

(06-13-2021, 08:56 PM)turingmachine75 Wrote: Road Trips

My take:

Bad Trips
- DUEL (1971)
- JOY RIDE (2001)
- BREAKDOWN (1997)
- NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION (1983)

I like the idea of the fourth film each night being a bit of a swerve.
If we can dream it, then we can do it.

I've been mostly trying to open with most accessible movie and finish with the most niche/adult, for when the kids and normies have gone to bed and it's just the hardcore movie nerds finishing it out.
