Personally, I am dying to know more about Aryan Fembot 3000's views on Critical Race Theory. I'm sure just seeing the image doesn't do them justice.

I dunno. I think if it were a requirement, there'd be fewer shows like this.

Why the right decided this doofus had to be the de facto coronavirus "expert" will forever perplex me.  It would be like MSNBC calling the Insane Clown Posse for thoughts on magnets:*

Fox sure knows how to pick 'em:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fox-ne...d=msedgntp

Quote:John McWhorter, a professor of linguistics at Columbia University, made several baffling claims Friday evening on Fox News' self-titled primetime show, including that "social justice" means, in part, that "Black people don't have to do math."

"These people I call the 'elect,' are pursuing social justice — They'll say, 'Aren't you in favor of social justice?'" McWhorter told host Ben Domenech. "But what they mean by 'social justice' is a world where, for example, Black people don't have to do math."

"That's not what most of us think of social justice as being," he continued. "And so the idea is not to get a little nervous and hide in the corner when they say that you're against social justice. Say, 'Yes, I'm in favor of social justice, but what you mean by it is something quite different.'"

The diatribe appears to be a reference to the subject of McWhorter's recent Substack newsletter, which carried the headline "Is it racist to expect Black kids to do math for real?" The piece focuses on an 82-page workbook published by A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, a group of mathematics educators, called "Dismantling Racism in Mathematics Instruction" — a workbook that is, apparently, used in one optional course available to educators in Oregon.

Among other things, conservatives took umbrage at sections that sought to reduce "the focus" on "getting the 'right' answer." The document reportedly generated a debate, prompting a response from the Oregon Department of Education in defense of the curriculum:

Cultural context is helpful for all of our students in learning. Not all tools provided by A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction may make sense for each individual school; the content is simply to generate new ideas for engagement and strategies for educators.

The course was recently canceled, though the department did not cite a reason.

I love the guys who are like, "Everyone's talking about this," when it's just them. And then what they're talking about is also baffling.

We must be doing pretty awesome if their "whatabout"-isms are reduced to an obsolete schoolbook that was briefly used in Oregon.

I never had to dig deeper than the White House to find truly horrific shit they do.

I read a bit more about McWhorter because he doesn't seem like a conservative loon--he writes for Slant and The Atlantic.  So I was a bit confused as to why he was appearing on Fox.  But looking at his stuff, this is very much within his wheelhouse: Rallying against liberals, anti-racism, and CRT.  He has an article dated from 2001 that pretty much blames black people themselves for their own failures.  That was very much in vogue in 2001, I imagine that he's since crept away from that since it's really hard to try to justify that one in 2021.  So "Wokesters' is an easier target.

I think I'm just tired of people misinterpreting CRT for baseless fearmongering.  What it is is a framework that juxtaposes the rise of America to the super power it currently is to the rise of Slavery. What it isn't is a screed that claims everything about America is racist and that all white people are actively racist.  CRT sees our current definition of racism as inadequate: instead we should view as a system that we are all complicit.  We are all products of our environments, and we take the good with the bad.  Our focus on explicit racism turns it into merely an insult that doesn't really capture the nuance of human behavior.  People are rarely the racists you see in movies, and a policy isn't going to actively have wording that discriminates other people.  But there is the "Southern Strategy" and people do vote in ways that hurt marginalized individuals. Is Wokedom perfect?  Fuck no, and there are fair arguments about the problems of shaming and having discourse on social media.  But I often find the people who worry so much about "freedom of speech" largely fail to follow their own advice. Rather than engage and build, they'd rather destroy because it challenges the status quo.

Being a contrarian is now a viable way to get attention/make cash. Doesn't matter if you're full of shit. You have enough idiots who'll believe every word you say because they're morons, and the inevitable outrage will give you street cred.

You hear that parents who have kids going through Chemo treatments?  Carlson wants his audience to start calling child services agencies on you if you they wear masks outside:

Quote:Tucker Carlson is now telling his audience to harass people who wear face masks outside.

If they see children wearing masks, Tucker says the response should be no different than when you see a kid being abused -- "call the police immediately, contact child protective services"

The answer is that Carlson doesn't really care:

Quote:Does Tucker know families with a vulnerable child? Cancer? Autoimmune condition? Pre/post-transplant? As if the pandemic wasn't hard enough for those parents, last night he told his audience to report us to the authorities for child abuse for having our kid wear a mask outdoors.

Don't conservatives pass laws that prevent trans kids from playing sports on teams that conform with their gender identity?

"Oh, we don't tell people how to raise their kids."

Riiight.

It diverts police resources away from actual emergencies. Also, didn't we just do a whole nationwide thing about the dangers inherent in unnecessary police-public interactions? Don't be an asshole.

In a year or so, I could see us looking back at these past few weeks as the beginning of an extended Tucker Carlson mental breakdown. The guy seems to be doing less of his intentionally trollish "just asking questions!" faux-populist routine, and more of just going legitimately insane.

I think that's the thing, right? Where does the grift end and the insanity begin? There's a part of me that definitely believes Tucker is very much aware, and plays into those criticisms for his base. However, I don't think you can separate yourself from this. And when you engage in toxic shit simply for profit--that effects you as a person.

Speaking of Carlson, he thinks the law that made immigration policy less racist was a way worse "attack on our democracy" than the Capitol insurrection:
