OCEAN'S 8 (2018) Pre-Release
#1

Sandra Bullock is George Clooney

Cate Blanchett is Brad Pitt

Anne Hathaway is Matt Damon

and the rest are... the rest.

AI know it's meant to be the female equivalent to the Oceans films, but it just doesn't feel as "starry" as those films (and the collection of movie starpower was really the fun and the point of those films).

Everyone in the new version is famous (to varying degrees), but Clooney, Pitt, Damon AND Julia Roberts at the peak of their 20 million per film powers was something else. Made it a real event.

This feels like a slightly less impressive cast than that of Big Little Lies, and that's a TV show. And speaking of that show, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon replacing non-actors like Rihanna or sitcom stars like Mindy Kaling might have made it more eventful

If Anne Hathaway is involved I hope they get caught.

Damon has a cameo in this i think.

Trailer needs more Mindy and RiRi, but I'm liking what I see.....

....BUT:

1) I wish they'd let Blanchett just speak in her native accent

2) Wondering if having them target a fashion show will end up being problematic.

My predication. Hathway is part of the Con as well.

1. Urgh. James Corden.

2. Otherwise, looks quite fun!

3. "Can't we just go to this. Do we have to steal stuff?" is a good line.

4. I'm only doing the number thing because MichaelM did it.

Looks fun and akin to OCEAN'S 11 in terms of tone.  I'm in.

Well, it certainly looks better than the appallingly bad OCEAN'S THIRTEEN, although it resembles TOWER HEIST more than anything else.

It's interesting to see that George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell are getting a "based on characters created by" credit, even though the Ocean's movies (including the Sinatra original) have little to do with their excellent script.

OCEAN'S THIRTEEN is good.

This looks fun!

So... Bullock is Danny's sister?  Also, is it just me, or is Blanchett trying to do Carrie Fisher with that voice?  But, yes, looks fun.

Yes, she's Clooney's sister.

A13 is bland shite. 12 is the best.

Yeah. She's totally the 8th member of the team.

And this looks like a hoot. Love that Paulson gets what looks like a really fun role here.

So is this a prequel?

sad that David Holmes isn't doing the score, but Pemberton is a great alternative

Oh, Pemberton is doing this? If he brings back the jazz flute from Man from UNCLE this movie is a win no matter what goes on screen.

Where the hell has David Holmes been the last few years? Feel like the last thing I heard from him was the '71 soundtrack, and that was...ok.

I was always annoyed that the great score from 11 was constantly punctuated by dialogue tracks from the movie. That would have been an awesome album completely removed from the film.

There used to be a "complete" version of the soundtrack that was floating around on soundtrack bootleg sites, with extra and alternate versions of the songs (it may have been about 30 total), and dialogue free versions. I just did a quick google search and can't find it anywhere, but I'll keep an eye out, as I remember it being pretty great.

So, uh...

Did they kill off Clooney?

I expect it'll probably be revealed as a con, because that would be pretty surprising.

AFor sure it would be so we get the obligatory cameo at the end of the film.

Probably post credit sequence.  Either way, good catch.

One of the tracks that was left off the soundtrack, "Rodney Yates" (played over the opening, when Clooney leaves prison and goes to Atlantic City), is on Holmes's album Let's Get Killed. That same album also has "Gritty Shaker."

"69 Police" is on another Holmes album, Bow Down to the Exit Sign.

I don't know - Rihanna and Mindy might not be big movie stars, but they're two of the most famous women in the world.  Mindy quit her show I guess to do movies, and she's landed this and Wrinkle in Time, so I mean I guess she's off to a good start ... and except for The Queen of England and Barack Obama, Rihanna is probably tied with Beyonce as the third most famous / well-liked person in the world.  She's actually had a lot more radio hits than Beyonce the last few years and she's made about $100 million dollars this year in the fashion business, where she's a huge icon.  Admittedly, her other movies have been Battleship and Valerian, so we'll see what happens.

So, should the eventual team-up be Oceans' Eleven (with a pared down cast) or go full crossover with Oceans' Twenty-One*?

*I'm sure the number would be higher if I did the math

I think Scott Caan is available

For this to be a proper side-qual to the original Clooney movies, Rihanna should be saying all of her lines in the worst British accent imaginable.

So is there supposed to be a "villain" in this?

Looks like it could be a good time.  Blanchett is going to be the stand-out, I think.  I wish it had some of that Soderbergh style, though.  Plus New York is a much less fun, splashy setting for a heist than Vegas or Europe.

Ohhh, I don't think I like that, whether it's a fake-out or not.

Just wait until Oceans 8 1/2 where they add Danny’s Daughter to the team.

Hathaway is set up as the villain/mark a la Garcia in the trailer.
