I assume from the rows of dresses that's "I Feel Pretty."

Definitely would seem to be "I Feel Pretty."

Speaking of production costs, people can add $400 on top of everything:

More on-location shooting, this time in Newark, New Jersey:

Cool little story involving this boxer who was "on-set":

Lots and lots of on-location shooting in NYC/NJ for several months.

Wonder if we'll be getting an initial teaser at Christmastime as this is tasked by Disney with filling the void left over from James Cameron and his Avatar franchise bugging out for another year for Christmas 2020.

According to Spielberg, production has finished up...

Why this movie will require 14 months in post is unclear!  Hopefully he'll have the picture locked by the end of this year and he can dive into Indiana Jones.

Maybe they're de-aging both gangs so we can see them fighting in childhood.

No way it will. Seems like they’re positioning it for the Oscars.

Yeah, you don't release a prestige musical by Spielberg in April.
Just this guy, you know?

The last decade has seen a trend of prestige musicals doing rather well in December, so there's plenty of awards and financial reasons to hold it until then.

Whatever the reason is, I am absolutely sure that it is driven by nothing besides purely creative considerations.

Spielberg can and has left post-production to shoot another movie before.

He did it with RPO most recently.

Turns out Disney was more right to hold on to this for Christmas than any of us could ever have known only a few weeks ago.

Anyway, some news, after a sort, with a splashy Vanity Fair article and a few big stills floating around online:

I love how involved Moreno seems to have been in the production.

Looks like Spielberg and Kaminski visually are attempting to wed two ostensibly diametrically opposed qualities to one another, a kind of grounded, muted and "realistic" palette that at times whips out a bevy of eye-popping, bright, attention-summoning colors, etc. Which, if everything else that has been said about this production is accurate, fits with Spielberg wanting to effectively have his cake and eat it, too. A gritty teenage crime tale that morphs into a full-blown operatic, romantic epic.

Looking forward to it.

Officer Krupke, of course.

For the 2020 version of West Side Story:

"Gee, Officer Krupke, we're very upset ..."

*BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM* *SHRIEKS OF TERROR*

"Suspect was told to freeze and raise hands.  Suspect instead began to sing and dance in a frivolous fashion.  I observed him moving one of his hands close to his waist.  With a fear for my imminent safety, including the possibility he had a weapon, I immediately initiated an officer-involved defensive weapon discharge.  Suspect was disabled within seconds and the area was cleared until emergency services could arrive."

After taking a peek at the Hollywood Scandals thread to see what today's flurry of activity was about, I'm having some colorful visions of how Spielberg might be reacting to the fate of his passion project today.

Steve's probably on the phone pumping Scott Rudin for tips as we speak.

He was accused of bullying a black student while at New York's Laguardia Performing Arts school, and then someone else came forward with a pretty graphic account of Elgort raping her when she was 17 - including photo evidence that the two knew each other.

The Scott Rudin "joke" has to do with the fact that the most recent Broadway revival of West Side Story also included an actor accused - and admitted to - some fairly grotesque behavior, and Rudin, the producer, refused to replace him: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/19/theat...masar.html

Spielberg ought to just reunite with Shia and forget these other young punks.

2014 ?!?!?!?!

I'd be curious to know if the police even investigated.

Postponed a full year, to December 10th, 2021. I assume the Christmas spot is important to the producers.

With the film presumably done and INDY 5 surrendered, Spielberg's immediate schedule would seem clear. Don't know which project would be on deck, but with my luck it'll be BLACKHAWK.

He should probably retire. He's getting ancient and he's no Scorsese.

I'll never hate a filmmaker that made TEMPLE OF DOOM, even if he seems to hate that film!

I feel bad for Spielberg, as I feel bad for anyone who cannot enjoy TEMPLE OF DOOM.

It bums me out that he really internalized the criticism of that film to such an extent that he can't even really appreciate the fanbase that it does have.
