Lord of the Rings Casting Draft Brackets: Three Man Showdown: Final Round
#1
EvilTwin:

The Lord of the Rings - A Hammer Films / Seven Arts Production

In 1962 following the failure of The Phantom of the Opera, Hammer thought their cycle of gothic horror was over. Casting about for new directions, Christopher Lee suggested The Lord of the Rings as a project. With Lee himself, along with James Carreras, making the pitch to Tolkien, the author relented and handed over the rights. Hammer immediately went to work and assembled a top notch crew, favorite regulars, and international stars to make their most ambitious films to date.

Directed by: Terence Fisher (The Sword of Sherwood Forest)
Written by: Jimmy Sangster & Anthony Hinds
Cinematography by: Freddie Francis
Production Design by: Bernard Robinson
Score by: James Bernard

All three of these are winners and have legitimate claims to the top prize. In the end, it comes down to deciding which one I want to see the most. To that point, I feel like Simbob and EvilTwin have drafts that would be similar in spirit to what we've seen already whereas Richard has delivered something that would be truly unique and zany, and the source material lends itself perfectly to a Monty Python style sendup.

To that end, Richard gets my vote.

Per the Gimli factor, I go Simbob.

I think Richard takes it for pulling off his concept so brilliantly.

Predictably quite difficult.

I think, in the end, the deciding factor is William Hickey's voice. Im voting Simbob.

EvilTwin has the best Gandalf (I'd love to see Lee tackle his dream role) and Aragorn, and the overall Hammer connection.

Simbob has the best Boromir and Saruman, captures the flavor of an international production of the era, and honorably bested me in the previous round.

Richard has the best hobbits (Palin and Jones would still be excellent choices if this was a "straight" adaptation), a perfectly chosen Gollum, the appeal of the Cook/Moore duo, and a concept I love.

I vote for Richard.
